Cloud spending accounts for a significant portion of IT spend and it’s only going to get bigger. According to IDC Research, by 2022 the compound annual growth rate is expected to reach 22.5%. Yet with all this growth, the cloud operating model is still developing, largely because traditional operating models no longer apply. Operating and managing cloud infrastructure is vastly different from on-prem IT infrastructure. In that world, decisions are limited to a few people who make buying decisions once a quarter or year on a 3-5 year investment cycle. In contrast, decision-making in the cloud happens in real-time and is distributed across technology, business and finance teams. Many companies, even if they operate in the cloud, are still using procurement and financial processes designed for on-prem, which translates into wasted resources and money.
