By necessity, every company is now a software company. By 2017, two-thirds of customer service transactions will no longer require the support of a human intermediary. That means that if you haven’t already done so, you must adapt your business model to meet the needs of online customers. Failure to do so will put you at a severe competitive disadvantage. And chief among those demands is that you provide an exceptional user experience. App speed, reliability and ease of use are the new currency in this fast-changing landscape. Best-in-class FI marketers have embraced the power of signals. Through their everyday actions, consumers and businesses continually create signals for marketers like you. A signal is an indication of intent or behavior. Examples of activities that produce signals include making a purchase, searching online for information about a financial product, clicking on an ad, applying for a loan, and paying off debt. Each signal can be tracked, monitored, and acted upon. Reaching customers at the critical moment, in the right channel with the right message, requires keen insights about the signals they’re producing. Signals aren’t new to marketing. In fact, you may already be using new mover lists or even search engine marketing. Today, though, there is so much more valuable data available — if you know where to look and what to do with it.

The explosive growth of eCommerce has focused attention on security concerns associated with online payment transactions. Cardholders worry about the safety of online transactions while card issuers are concerned about balancing the risks and costs of payment fraud with a loss of revenue caused by transaction abandonment. The 3-D Secure protocol allows payment card issuers to reduce fraud in payment transactions by verifying cardholder identity during Card Not Present (CNP) transactions. Before a transaction is authorized, a cardholder can be challenged to enter a password, answer a question, or use some other form of authentication credential. This interruption in the transaction often causes legitimate customers to abandon the purchase resulting in loss of revenue for the issuer. The challenge is how to reduce fraud without impacting the user purchase experience.
