Quality of service (QoS) is a critical enabling technology for enterprises and service providers wanting to deliver consistent primary storage performance to business-critical applications in a multi-tenant or enterprise infrastructure. The type of applications that require primary storage services typically demand greater levels of performance than what is readily available from traditional storage infrastructures today. However, simply providing raw performance is often not the only objective in these use cases. For a broad range of business-critical applications, consistent and predictable performance are the more important metrics. Unfortunately, neither is easily achievable within traditional storage arrays.

While there’s no hotter topic at the intersection of business and technology than AI, Avanade research shows that 88% of global business and IT decision-makers say they don’t know how to use AI, and 79% say that internal resistance limits their implementation of it. It doesn’t have to be this way. Human-centered AI, which focuses on augmenting the workforce to improve customer and employee experiences, can contribute directly to achieving business goals. This point of view discusses the ways your organization can take advantage of a human-centered AI approach, including redefining jobs and creating a digital ethics framework.

Since its inception over two decades ago, the primary objective of business intelligence has been the creation of a top-down single source of truth from which organizations would centrally track KPIs and performance metrics with static reports and dashboards. This stemmed from the proliferation of data in spreadsheets and reporting silos throughout organizations, often yielding different and conflicting results. With this new mandate, BI-focused teams were formed, often in IT departments, and they began to approach the problem in the same manner as traditional IT projects, where the business makes a request of IT, IT logs a ticket, then fulfills the request following a waterfall methodology.

Over the next several years, chief information officers (CIOs) will see their roles radically change—to an extent that changes the cultures of their companies in turn. In an age in which tech drives progress, CIOs will expand their purviews, now functioning less as the people who "merely" acquire IT systems and make sure they run correctly than as strategic assets in their own rights. They'll preside over transformative technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning, transform business models, generate revenue, assume responsibility for steering their employers through a new cyber-threat environment and more. To illuminate the role of the CIO in 2025, Forbes Insights partnered with VMWare to survey more than 650 CIOs from a range of sectors, including financial services, healthcare, government, manufacturing, retail and telecommunications. The CIO's world is changing fast. In five years, chief information officers (CIOs) will have new responsibilities in the C-suite and across the enterprise, extending their strategic influence over product development, marketing, human resources, the supply chain and more. They will be challenged to discover new ways of generating revenue and to introduce artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities that create unparalleled efficiencies. Such are some of the findings of a global Forbes Insights survey, conducted in partnership with VMware, of more than 650 CIOs in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region (including Japan). The surveyed CIOs are from broad range of industries, including financial services, healthcare, government, manufacturing, retail and telecommunications. They work for organizations with annual revenue of $1 billion or more; 16% were from firms with at least $10 billion in revenue. Based on the survey findings, this report examines six critical d

While working to maintain tactical control of the mobile environment, IT managers often find themselves drowning in minutiae. Overwhelmed by the number of moving parts, they’re unable to stay abreast of the latest threats, let alone extract meaning from or make decisions based on the mountains of data now being collected. With limited IT resources dedicated to mobile technology tools that facilitate reactive rather than proactive management—and limited visibility into mobile intelligence across the organization—many managers have had to choose between security and productivity as the focus of their efforts.

Massive amounts of data are being created driven by billions of sensors all around us such as cameras, smart phones, cars as well as the large amounts of data across enterprises, education systems and organizations. In the age of big data, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and deep learning deliver unprecedented insights in the massive amounts of data. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos spoke about the potential of artificial intelligence and machine learning at the 2017 Internet Association‘s annual gala in Washington, D.C., “It is a renaissance, it is a golden age,” Bezos said. “We are solving problems with machine learning and artificial intelligence that were in the realm of science fiction for the last several decades. Natural language understanding, machine vision problems, it really is an amazing renaissance.” Machine learning and AI is a horizontal enabling layer. It will empower and improve every business, every government organization, every philanthropy

At no other time has data played such a crucial role in the success of our commercial sector, and no more so than in financial services. We can see this powerfully illustrated when we pause to consider the growth of data driven ‘technologies’ such as Artificial Intelligence and their prevalence in driving innovation in areas such as risk management, multi-channel customer experience and fraud detection. So keen is the sector to use data to deliver advantage, that PwC says startups with a strong AI-based offer attract some of the most lucrative funding – to the tune of $1 billion over the past two years.1 With this as our landscape, and the continued drive to deliver data-driven innovation the prospect of disruption and downtime is something that cannot be countenanced. This being the main reason why the senior management of most organisations continue to buy into tried-and-tested Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies. We all feel assured that if we ‘double up’ our investments in – as f

For most enterprises, 60 to 73 percent of enterprise data goes unused for business-intelligence (BI) and analytics efforts, according to Forrester.1 Data that is out of sight or out of date creates a competitive blind spot for businesses today. With customer demands, economic changes, and new trends and technologies evolving at a dizzying pace, staying relevant — not to mention competitive — requires that businesses access all available BI to be ?exible and agile. Businesses must have quick access to data that is comprehensive, accurate, current, and consumable in real time. A traditional infrastructure, where the online analytical processing (OLAP) platform and the online transaction processing (OLTP) platform are separate, makes ?exibility and agility difficult to achieve. When a business has accurate, current data in hand, it can make real-time data-driven business decisions so that it can stay relevant and competitive, or even be a disruptor in its industry.
