Unilever is a global player in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, with nearly a third of the world’s population using its products every day. The company has more than 169,000 employees working around the world, and its leaders estimate that within three years, as many as 60 percent of those employees will be Millennials. Critical to Unilever’s ongoing success will be its ability to attract these recent college graduates. For its signature Future Leaders Programme, the company wanted its recruitment efforts to get ahead of the curve. Exceptional customer service is a competitive differentiator. Providing consistent service that is tailored to the individual across a variety of digital channels can help organizations deliver personalized experiences that exceed the expectations of today’s digital savvy consumers. Yet, many organizations fail to deliver real-time relevance in their service experiences because critical customer data is siloed in different systems (CRM, ticketing, etc.) across the enterprise, making it difficult to understand the full customer journey and their needs at that point in time. We partnered with IDG Research to survey top-performing customer service organizations to determine the challenges they face, and, more importantly, their plans for driving better outcomes. One thing is clear: taking a strategic approach to future investments can help organizations meet their customer service objectives and deliver on customer expectations.

With the growing size and importance of information stored in today’s databases, accessing and using the right information at the right time has become increasingly critical. Real-time access and analysis of operational data is key to making faster and better business decisions, providing enterprises with unique competitive advantages. Running analytics on operational data has been difficult because operational data is stored in row format, which is best for online transaction processing (OLTP) databases, while storing data in column format is much better for analytics processing. Therefore, companies normally have both an operational database with data in row format and a separate data warehouse with data in column format, which leads to reliance on “stale data” for business decisions. With Oracle’s Database In-Memory and Oracle servers based on the SPARC S7 and SPARC M7 processors companies can now store data in memory in both row and data formats, and run analytics on their operatio

Your enterprise runs its critical applications on Oracle Databases, and as an enterprise IT leader, maintaining the performance and availability of your databases is among your top priorities. Any degradation in performance or loss of data could result in serious business disruption and loss of revenue, so protecting this vital asset is a must. There are many causes of data loss— administration errors, system or media failures, cyberattacks, and more—but we often overlook design flaws in the very systems meant to protect data: general-purpose backup systems. Many existing data protection solutions fail to meet the demands of critical databases because they treat them as generic files to copy as opposed to specialized resources. Taking a generic approach to database backup and recovery not only exposes you to the risk of data loss, it also negatively impacts performance and makes it difficult to recover within acceptable timeframes.

ESG Lab evaluated the Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance from Oracle with a focus on its ability to deliver reliable data protection by recovering Oracle databases to any point in time with sub-second RPO in a highly scalable scale-out solution that is easy to use and manage. Year after year, ESG respondents consistently cite improving data backup and recovery among the top IT priorities in our annual spending intentions survey (including 2016’s iteration). Why? Because when unforeseen infrastructure failures or data corruptions occur, the ability to restore not only business-critical information but also application and end-user access to that information become paramount. Lost or prolonged inaccessibility to business-critical data and applications most often means lost revenue and productivity to the business, and possibly the inability to meet regulatory requirements.

Good analysis and benchmarking of hotline data helps organisations answer crucial questions about their ethics and compliance programme, including: Does our culture support employees who raise concerns? Are our communications with employees reaching the intended audiences and having the desired effect? Are our investigations thorough and effective? Do we need more training? Do we need to review or update our policies? Do employees know about our reporting channels? Comparing internal data year over year to help answer these questions is important. But getting a broader perspective on how your performance matches up to industry norms is critical. This year’s analysis of our EMEA & APAC data from nearly 14,000 ethics and compliance hotline reports revealed key data points that compliance professionals can use to benchmark and assess their programme’s performance, and move toward predictive risk mitigation.

If your company stores or processes credit card information, you must be able to demonstrate compliance with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards (DSS). These standards include requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, design, and other critical protective measures. They also include one very prescriptive requirement:  Section 6.6 mandates that organizations secure all Web applications by conducting a code review or installing an application layer firewall. Companies have had a very difficult time passing the other parts of Section 6 and they have experienced a rising number of data breaches. Unless companies take 6.6 seriously, PCI compliance failure rates, and data breaches, will continue to grow.  Read this whitepaper to gain an overview of best practices to pass Section 6.6 and an understanding of the technology available to you.
